Founded in 1862, John Hancock Life Insurance Company has been providing private capital financing solutions to U.S. middle market companies for decades. In 2001 the Hancock Capital Management team was established to spearhead these activities. Today HCM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of John Hancock, manages over $3.0 billion in capital for John Hancock and its partners.

HCM has sponsored five third-party funds to invest alongside John Hancock in Private Debt transactions. Limited partners in these funds include: insurance companies; public, private, and Taft-Hartley pension plans; endowments, family offices, and others. Timeline

    1994 Senior members of current HCM team begin making private debt and equity investments as members of John Hancock’s Investment Team
    1998 John Hancock launches its first Private Debt Fund
    2001 HCM team formed to focus on private debt and equity investments for John Hancock and third parties
    2002 Second Private Debt Fund launched
    2004 Third Private Debt Fund launched
    2006 HCM expands its private equity focus and formalizes its Private Equity Fund Investment and Equity Co-Investment programs
    2007 Fourth Private Debt Fund launched
    2012 Fifth Private Debt Fund launched
    2017 Over $4.5 billion deployed across HCM's platform and Senior Debt Platform launched
